Creating a Balance between Work and Relaxation

This is Day #4 of my Thirty Day Challenge / Blog Challenge and decided to write about this today after looking at one of my Favorite Books , The Bounce Back Book by Karen Salmansohn. This book described as “How to thrive in the face of adversity, setbacks, and losses. What i like about this book is that they give exercises that you can reflect and do daily to help you think about some things.
So Tip #25
“Create a balance Wheel of Fortune“
So the assignment , If your Wheel of Fortune were a real wheel, would it roll along smoothly.. or would you be in for a bumpy ride? Consider which areas of your life you need to nurture to create a more well-rounded, consistent, balanced state of being.
The Wheel Consists of:
- Fun Stuff
- Romance
- Family
- Career/Work
- Friends
- Health
- Wealth
- Spiritual
Now in looking at whats on our wheel, I know for me and what i do , at times it can be very challenging to have this balance. For some of the categories might not be as important for you as others, That’s OK but if your wheel only has let say Career/Work and Wealth and nothing else going for you, if all of a sudden that stopped due to health, loss of job, emergency, etc. What Happens? Your whole life stops. If you love what you do with your career, your job, your business and making money but you have nothing else on your Wheel to balance it out, it can be painful when its not there.
So i know for myself, I am work in progress
trying to truly create that balance, I take frequent rest breaks throughout the day, I am more so than ever before watching what i am eating and educating myself on staying healthy, regular exercise, knowing there is more FUN STUFF out there besides Making Money ” href=”http://www.SimpleInstantCashFlow.com”> Making Money , Learning latest GURU tip from people like Jonathan Budd, or talking strategies. Spending Time on the weekends and evenings after working from home away from the Cell Phone, Facebook , and the computer and enjoying other FUN STUFF like flying a kite with my daughter and dogs, going out with my son biking or go kart racing, hanging out with my wife at Costco , playing racquetball with friends , etc.
Think about what you are doing now and it you are truly creating balance or just a slave to Work? Again you might say you enjoy it, I love what i do but there are so many other passions I have besides WORK. I hear people get into a Zone and work 12-14 hour days and are happy and that is good but truly look at the balance of others things in the Wheel that you might not truly being able to enjoy because you are so caught up in one or two things.
In creating balance and being able to see that you might not have a true balance between Work and relaxation , First Step is to go off the 8 Things in the Wheel that are given or think of areas in your life that are important to you. Then find ways to get more in tune with these areas, Example would be for Romance , if its lacking or non existent and you want to enjoy it more ,think about and write it down of things you would enjoy and share it with your loved one or someone you like or want to get to know better, etc. Its all about facing these areas that you need balance on and working on them. I know for me having the balance, i truly feel more satisfied with Life and know there is so much to be happy about besides Work and Money

Hey Chris,
A balanced life is what we should all strive for. Taking time out to enjoy life too. In my last video I talked about taking time out… empty space or silence during the day will help you do less accomplish more.
Good timing Chris,

What is the saying “all work and no play makes Jill a dull person”, I’ve forgotten the saying but I’m sure you know what I mean:-) My hubby used to say that about me all the time, that I worked too much and didn’t take time for fun.
Once I finally listened and started having fun, my work was much easier also!
Thanks for a great post about balance Chris!

Oh Chris! You have the most PERFECT timing. I love the wheel analogy. Because I am so consumed with getting things going and seeing all that work do something, that I have put my life, my kids, my husband all on the back burner for days and now weeks on end. Every last moment I’m on my computer, somtimes until midnight.
It’s not fair to them, and it’s really not what I ever imagined “Working from Home” to be like. I’ve always been told by my upline that if you want serious results, prepare to sacrifice at least 2 years of your life to really get it going. 2 years? Like this? No one will be here if I keep going like this!
But your wheel analogy makes sense. And you know I’m all about making sense!
Thaank you Chris. It’s nice to know I have options and can actually have a life!

Hello Jennifer, thanks for you comment, I dont know about sacrifice your life comment but it does that work, working smart and being persistent, but again there is also balance and so much in life that you can enjoy and it will help your performance and ultimately your business. Have a wonderful weekend with your family

Hey Chris,
Great post. I write that a lot but man, I really like this. I spend waaaaayyyy too much time working lately. My marketing career has finally become too much to handle with a full time job. So no matter how much I love being an engineer, the online business was designed to give me more time with family.
I had to make one of those hard life choices, and put in notice with the J.O.B. I will miss it, but it gives me much more room to balance out my wheel.
Thanks for a great post.

Hi Chris,
Oh boy! You really drove home a point here. I’m a workaholic and by definition do not have balance in my life. Good news though, I have started working on that.
Thanks for a great post!
Enjoy your weekend!

Great point! Im a full time student / healthcare assistant / aspiring internet marketer. The J.O.B. does take up a lot of time and energy. I do my best to balance the wheel which is tough most if not ALL of the time. The important thing is to have that positive attitude and channel it to achieving more.

Hey Chris,
I know exactly what you mean here. It does come down to having the balance where business is great and all, but so is our life and family.
Everyday I do something for myself to give me a sense of balance. It’s a good thing because as a result I’m happy and so is the family.
That is super important at the end of the day if you want to be loved.
Have a great day buddy,

Great analogy with the wheel! Finding balance can be really difficult but it is definitely worth the effort!
Taking the time to do things that take care of you as a person is so important for overall wellness and being able to take care of other people and our responsibilities!

Hey Chris,
Thanks for another great post. I am a firm believer in the balance of work and relaxation. Especially for Entrepreneurs who work from home.
Sometimes because we are building our own business coupled with the fact that we are in a comfortable environment (our homes) we can get so wrapped up in working we forget to stop, step back and make time to relax.
I agree with Stacy who commented above that the wheel analogy was excellent.
Thanx again,
Alicia

Nice post Chris. I really enjoyed the part about doing more with your family. I find myself so caught up in my business that sometimes I forget to spend time with my daughter.
I think I’ll give that “kite flying” thing a try or maybe an early morning walk because it’s way to hot here in Texas right now to be outside for too long during the day.
Thanks for sharing.
